Spiritual Meaning

Composed by the great saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas, this stuti (hymn of praise) is a heartfelt ode to Lord Rama. It begins with an appeal to the mind ("bhajman") to worship the compassionate Lord Rama, who eradicates the dreadful fear of the cycle of life and death. The hymn beautifully describes his divine form: his eyes, mouth, hands, and feet are like newly bloomed red lotuses, and his dark complexion is more beautiful than countless gods of love. It hails him as the beloved of Sita, the friend of the poor, and the destroyer of demonic forces. Tulsidas concludes by praying for Lord Rama to reside in the lotus of his heart and vanquish inner evils like lust and greed.
