Dalit saint of Varkari tradition, known for unshakable devotion to Vitthala amidst deep social injusticeसंत चोखामेळा जी का जन्म 14वीं सदी में महाराष्ट्र के एक दलित महार समुदाय में हुआ था।
Sant Chokhamela Ji was born in a marginalized Mahar caste in Maharashtra during the 14th century. Denied entry into temples and ridiculed by society, he never let hatred enter his heart—instead, he turned every moment into worship of Lord Vitthala. A true Varkari, Chokhamela composed soul-piercing abhangs (devotional poems) expressing both his pain and his love for God. His words echo the voice of the unheard, saying, 'God, if you are truly present, why do your devotees suffer?' Even after his tragic death at a construction site near the Pandharpur temple, it is believed that his bones kept chanting ‘Vitthala Vitthala’. Today, he stands as an immortal symbol of spiritual equality, inspiring generations to look beyond birth and see the divine in all.
