Only female Alvar saint, known for divine love poetry to Lord Vishnuआंडाल केवल एक कवयित्री नहीं थीं, बल्कि भगवान विष्णु के प्रति प्रेम की एक दिव्य ज्वाला थीं।
Andal was not just a poet — she was a divine flame of love for Lord Vishnu. Found as a baby under a tulsi plant by the saint Periyalvar, she grew up immersed in devotional surroundings. From a young age, Andal dreamed only of marrying Lord Ranganatha (a form of Vishnu). Her devotional poems, especially the Tiruppavai, are sung to this day every morning in South Indian temples during the month of Margazhi. Her verses are filled with deep viraha — the pain of separation — and sweet madhurya bhakti, a loving yearning for union with the divine. Legend says that in the end, Lord Ranganatha accepted her as his bride, and she merged with the deity in Srirangam. Andal's life is a divine song of surrender, where longing itself became liberation.
