Avvaiyar was a saintly Tamil poetess, believed to have lived around the 7th or 8th century. Renouncing worldly desires early in life, she dedicated herself to the divine and the well-being of society, especially children. Her poems — like 'Aathichudi' and 'Kondrai Vendhan' — are a cornerstone of Tamil moral literature, teaching values of compassion, humility, and righteousness in simple yet profound words. She was a devotee of Lord Murugan and is said to have had divine conversations with him on the meaning of life and wisdom. Deeply respected across generations, Avvaiyar’s presence was motherly, wise, and spiritually uplifting. Her legacy is not just poetic — it is a living moral compass for Tamil culture and Bhakti tradition.
